Externship for Nursing Students

Offered each summer, the Externship for Nursing Students program provides a dynamic learning experience for nursing students. This program allows students to participate in direct patient care with an assigned RN mentor. Time will be spent in a Medical/Surgical Area and a Specialty area of choice. Beginning in late May, the program will run for 10 consecutive weeks. After 10 weeks, opportunities in the Nurse Assistant Float Pool may be extended until graduation.

  • Organizational and classroom orientation to start May 28, 2018
  • RN mentored clinical experience

Eligibility Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in BSN or ADN program
  • Nursing students who have completed Med-surg I
  • Meet Saint Francis job-related health requirements
  • Satisfactory work record (from within last year)
  • Satisfactory academic record

    • Copy of your current transcript
    • Clinical faculty reference
    • Current or most recent employer reference
    • Areas of interest inventory form
    • Current AHA Healthcare Provider (CPR) card
    • Completed essay questionnaire (interviews granted based on references and essay questionnaire)

    All documentation may be mailed to or dropped off in Training and Development
